One image, two scans: how to tell they belong together
Large archives accumulate duplicates: a low-resolution web scan, a cropped version and a newly scanned negative can all represent the same photograph.
We are testing a more careful distinction between identical files, visually related versions and genuinely different frames of the same shoot.
What should the archive display: every scan, one preferred scan with alternatives, or the original group with a version selector?
